Using Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) for Healing

Regenerative Medicine

How Do We Know Our Specific Treatments are Right for You?

At Fountain of Youth Rx, Dr. David Suarez is one of the pioneers in Regenerative Medicine. The very specific protocols and techniques we use allow bio-cellular enrichment to tap into your body’s innate ability to heal and promote restorative health in a powerful way. Our premium Regenerative Medicine therapies are tailored to your specific needs.

What is Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy?

Blood is made of RBC (Red Blood Cells), WBC (White Blood Cells), Plasma, and Platelets. When in their resting state, platelets look like sea sponges and when activated form branches. Platelets were initially known to be responsible for blood clotting. In the last 20 years we have learned that when activated in the body, platelets release healing proteins called growth factors.

Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM), is the next generation of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy. There are many growth factors with varying responsibilities, however cumulatively they accelerate tissue and wound healing. After increasing the baseline concentration of these platelets, we can deliver a concentrated dose of growth factors that can dramatically enhance tissue recovery.

How is a PRP Procedure Performed?

By using patient’s own blood, specially prepared platelets are taken and then re-injected into the treatment area. The platelets release “growth factors” that lead to tissue healing by concentrating the platelets:

  • Increase the release of growth factors
  • Promotes the growth of collagen and elastin
  • Allows healing of tendons, ligaments, muscles, cartilage and joints.

PRP is then injected into the desired areas affected leading to a local desired inflammatory reaction that causes the formation and deposition of new collagen and controlled healing from active biological proteins that are found in white blood cells, plasma and platelets. The new collagen matures, tightens, heals and strengthens the damaged tissues.

How Do I Prepare for a Treatment?

The treatment usually takes an hour and is performed on as an ‘outpatient’ basis. Do not take any anti-inflammatory, vitamins/supplements or alcohol one week prior to the injection and for one week after as this may limit the treatment benefits.

Please arrive with no make-up on to each appointment (including post-treatment check-ups).

Are there any Significant Side Effects?

Although uncommon, the risks include those signs/symptoms associated with an injection including: swelling at injection site, temporary increased pain and stiffness of injected area, mild pain at injection site or area injected

Rare complications may include: Infection, blood clot, nerve injury, skin discoloration, calcification, scarring, loss of fat to the area and allergic reaction.

The Science Behind
Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM)

Platelet-Rich Fibrin Matrix (PRFM), is the next generation of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy. PRFM starts with a basic blood draw and uses a controlled separation process to remove almost all contaminants, leaving a pure platelet solution. PRFM takes this pure solution to the next level by forming a gel-like substance that protects and preserves platelets for injection.  This surgery alternative has been shown to repair damaged cartilage, cells and tissue, potentially restoring pre-injury function.

Using Stem Cells & Exosomes for Healing

Amniotic Fluid Stem Cells

This natural fluid is rich in growth factors, anti-inflammatory and has a fast treatment time. Human amniotic membrane constitutes the innermost layer of the placental tissue and provide a wide variety of therapeutic applications in regenerative medicine.

Amniotic Fluid injections encourage repair and rejuvenation of soft tissue such as muscles and tendons and joints. The activated platelets in PRP tell the stem cells what to do.

Exosomes

The discovery of Exosomes and its advancement is changing regenerative medicine. Exosomes are tiny cell secretions full of proteins, growth factors and more that target injured cells in your body. Think of them as delivery trucks hauling restorative information to damaged cells who then absorb the components and begin a physical transformation. Sometimes added to PRP or Stem Cell therapy in order to maximize.

Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M)

Alpha-2-Macroglobulin (A2M) is a special molecule that is naturally found in your blood. A2M is isolated and concentrated before injecting into the injury site. The A2M molecule acts as a powerful protector against cartilage breakdown by capturing the destructive enzymes known to cause inflammation.

Next Steps

By combining all these innovative technologies you can have decreased pain, improved mobility, and shortened healing times so you can get back to the quality of life that you deserve.

Your first step to pain relief starts with a conversation. Contact Fountain of Youth Rx to discuss your options and learn if regenerative medicine therapy is right for you.
