If wrinkles appear only when facial muscles contract, these are most likely dynamic wrinkles and Botox Cosmetic may be recommended. If wrinkles are the result of aging or sun damage, dermal fillers may be recommended. There are a number of dermal fillers available, and deciding which works for you is a process requiring consultation with your doctor.
At Fountain of Youth Rx, we may recommend Artefill, RADIESSE®, Restylane®, or JUVÉDERM®, all of which are proven dermal fillers. Be sure you can distinguish between these options before making your selection. We will make sure you understand each option and will help you make an informed decision. Dermal fillers may contain different ingredients and may be used for different areas of the face. What’s more, the period of time through which results last will likely vary from one to the next, so keep this in mind when making your selection.
Selection of Dermal Fillers
The lips may be a target for treatment with JUVÉDERM® and Restylane, as well as other areas of the face. Results may last several months, with some up to a year; results do not last as long when used in the lips.
RADIESSE® is made of calcium hydroxylapatite, which naturally occurs in the bones throughout the body.
The RADIESSE® dermal filler may be recommended to treat more severe nasolabial fold wrinkles, and others around the face. It should not be used in the lips, but RADIESSE® may be used to fill wrinkles around the cheeks or to add volume to this area of the face.
The calcium hydroxylapatite provides structure on which collagen may develop to fill facial wrinkles. Results typically last several months to a year.
Finally, Artefill is a dermal filler utilizing collagen from cows, as well as polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres.
The microspheres contained in Artefill are not absorbed by the body, allowing the effects of the treatment to last longer as it works with your body’s own collagen to provide long-term wrinkle relief that can last years.
Short-term results are achieved thanks to the bovine collagen that works to fill the wrinkle.
